I saw someone in the weigh-in thread mention the need for a healthy recipes thread. I’ve been researching just this for the past year or so. I’m unfortunately not getting any younger and have been focusing on bone health and muscle mass to hopefully keep me in the field for many years yet. Part of that has been compiling recipes that focus on lean protein, healthy fats, low sugar and lots of flavor, so thought I could share a few to start it off.

I have no shortage of walleye, so lots of fish recipes. This one is good:

If you like Mediterranean flavors, this is awesome paired with a simple lean protein:

I’ve also become a fan of breakfast bowls. One of my favorites for when I have leftovers:
1/3 c. quinoa
1/3 c. Black beans
1/4 avocado
1 T. Shredded cheddar
1 egg plus 1/4 c. egg whites, scrambled.
Salt, pepper, cumin, garlic powder, onion powder to taste.

Never knew I was a quinoa fan until I started trying some of these recipes.

Anybody else have some healthy eats they love?

My go to breakfast right now Greek yogurt protein powder granola and blueberries. Take me about 10 min in the kitchen aid and I make it Sunday morning for the entire week. If I don’t work out then I cut the granola out.

thanks, hope to try it when I catch a few more. growing tied of shore lunch

If I ate black beans every morning for breakfast, my wife would divorce me. I do overnight oats for breakfast every day. It’s easy to make ahead, and makes for a super quick breakfast after my workout. Here’s the recipe:

1/2 cup oats
1/2 cup coconut milk
1/2 cup Greek yogurt
1 tablespoon Chia seeds
1 tablespoon honey
1/2 cup frozen berries

If 4T of butter is considered healthy, I’m in! 😆

Great thread idea.

My wife and I make a lot of meals that we find here. —> Eating Well

Lots of recipes don’t include meat, but we just add whatever would work. Lots of one pot, one pan, skillet type meals that work for our schedule.

A few that we like:

My cardiologist pushes “Mediterranean diet”, so this is one I make fairly often. I mix up the accompaniments based on what I’ve got on hand or looks good at the market. Would likely work with a broad variety of fish.

Marry Me White Bean & Spinach Skillet

I did a Marry Me chicken last week. With all the cream and cheese, “healthy” would not have been my first thought. I do a similar version with salmon instead of chicken, but that one is called salmon in Tuscan cream sauce. Both are excellent, and good things when cooking for a larger group.

One of my absolute favorites is to take an elk loin and slice it as thin as possible and hit it with some woreshire and alpine touch makes a pepper blend and let that soak. Throw it on my Blackstone and eat it over some rice. It actually makes a killer cheese steak also but we aren’t eating those at the moment. It’s sad I only get to eat that 4 times a year

Last week I had chicken breast covered in taco seasoning from the pressure cooker with mashed sweet potatoes and I put red enchilada sauce on it that was pretty legit. I’m trying to eat meals I can run across my scale to keep the macros right

I had to make marry me pasta last week for the brother in law since he was in town. Worked out good when I was done with cooking the chicken I pulled 6oz out and set it aside and added back to my plate when it was all done to hit my protein on that

I tried adding protein powder but it gave me horrendous gas.
Try protein powder that does not have whey. I didn’t use protein powder for years because it did the same thing to me. Then I found vegetarian protein powder and I have no problem, I use orgain from Costco.
