How big is this bear?

Saw this bear on a recent hunt. The bear was in Montana near the Wyoming border in the Beartooth Mountains, and was about 80 yards from me. How big would you say this bear is and male/female? I don't hunt bears actively and am not good at judging them, but this one looked good to me.

Pretty bear, but I’m saying a big sow. I planned to go up in that area to shoot a bear this fall, but of course our Beartooth fall bear quota closed even quicker than the spring.

I'm not 100% familiar with the beartooths, but keep in mind that gmu 510 and 520 are closed for black bear.

Looks like a good sized bear. I would guess sow based on the face and rump. Sounds like many with the same opinion.

It sure looked good and healthy to me. Not huge but not little. I was surprised to see how not scared it was of people. It would sit there and watch hikers as they walked by, not 50 yards away. Kind of eerie actually.

These are the best black bear photos I have ever seen in my life. Really like the mixture of spruce and pine trees against the white rocks. I do not and never have hunted bears; deer, antelope, elk yes, but not bears.
I used to have one story ranch house in black bear country. Saw huge tracks around my house sometimes. These photos make me want to dig out my Leica Safari 35 mm with a telephoto lens.

IMO, she will not be as big as you thought when you walk up to her. :)

I think you'd be hard pressed to find a better hide.
