Song about a calvary rider and buffalo hunter that rode with the Masterson, Joe Mason. Joe was also a Dodge City policeman and one of Wyatt Earp's deputy sheriffs. As portrayed in this song, he may have had some regrets in life. His story would make an interesting Western movie for sure.
