Hi , from England
Joined the forum with the hope of hunting in the US one day. Here to learn about your hunting methods and share some stories from the UK

Welcome aboard! I've been there once for a Roe buck hunt.
That’s the only species of deer I have in my local area. Beautiful animals
We have so many of them, see them pretty much everyday. It’s roe Buck season at the moment, had one so far this year, loads about but freezer is full

Welcome Mark!! I lived on a farm outside Icklingham for a bit. Loved it. Have mates still in Hengrave and Norfolk.....so far have only been able to take a Muntjac on a trip back to Blighty.
No muntjac around me, only Roe in East Yorkshire. Have shot muntjac and Chinese in Norfolk. Also friends have a syndicate lease in Scotland that I have shot Reds on.

Hunting in the US seems very different to here in England. I have permission on 4 privately owned farms local to me that I can go anytime and shoot as many deer as I want. The farmers just want the deer kept under control.
From what I have seen the US is far stricter with Tags etc.

You are correct and to muddy the waters even more.....state by state regulations are VERY different. The mate I hunted with in Norfolk game keeps as a side gig and he is responsible for managing those farms. In some of our Midwestern states (I am from IN and have a place there) farmers get much more leeway to control deer numbers than places like out here in the West.

Hi, archery is illegal to hunt with, muzzleloaders are legal but I think it’s very difficult to achieve the legal muzzle velocity to hunt. Shotgun, Rimfire and centrefire.
Centre fire has to achieve a minimum muzzle velocity and bullet weight to be deer legal. .243 is minimum deer legal calibre in England for Red, Sika, roe and fallow
.220 can be used for Chinese and muntjac with a minimum 50gr bullet and 1000ft lbs energy

It’s also much harder to possess a firearm in England.
You need a reason to have one, (target club or hunting paid or on permission)
You need security at home, ammo must be locked separate to rifle
Medical record check, no history of depression/anger etc
Police check criminal record
Reference from someone who has know you for a good few years and is of good character
You can be issued a closed or open ticket
Closed you can only shoot on permission that the police know about ( the land has usually had a police check stating what’s the max calibre can be used on the ground)
Open you can make your own judgment if the land is safe to use your desired calibre.
I have .22 rimfire, 6.5mm calibre and .308 on my open ticket
