hawk question?

Went out chasing birds today, and a hawk wouldn't shut up. It wouldn't stop screaming, and then another joined in. They were diveing towards us the whole time we were there. Do you think they have lil ones in the nest, or any other reason?

I'd guess they had chicks or a nest nearby. I came across a hawk nest on the ground and when mama hawk came swooping in, I ducked. I don't know if she was playing chicken or not, if she was she won. I thought it was weird she was nesting on the ground, but then again trees in our area are few and sometimes far between.

Sounds like goshawks to me. They don't play well with others.
