Not sure if some of you know - but the DOI recently reversed grazing leases for American Prairie Reserve for bison on BLM land. Let me start by saying - in my ideal world - bison would be provided opportunities to graze on public land. To me what's of significance - the reversal was based on the intent of these animals not being raised for "production" - with the logic that if animals are grazing on public land they need to be for raised for consumption. I can understand and appreciate the rationale, even though I don't like it.

That being the case - why and how are there horses eating on BLM land that's leased? When's the last time you ordered a horse quarter pounder?

Well, yes.

In Italy I enjoyed a spectacular horse carpaccio and would absolutely do it again.

In South Africa I had Zebra tenderloin. Very, very nice.

Like horses or not, it’s a very tasty animal.

My old boss said in China he ate all manner of things. Dog, cat, horse you name it. He said there wasn’t a single thing he was served he wouldn’t eat again… food for thought.. duh duh tiss

Coming soon to a local Walmart - horse sausage (disappointed barrel racers with product misconception, inbound I'm sure), horse nuggets, and horse rib steak.

Never ate a horse but my old neighbor definetly ate one of his grandkids ponies back in the early 90’s.

After Bus died we found the pony skull in his freezer along with the 100 woodchucks he planned to boil to feed his coon hounds that year.

As I purchase a wolf tag 😁
.

But in the topic of the original thread - are other animals that aren't ate/sold in a market graze on public land? Why are horses?

Well yes lots but my question is why the strict oversight on the bison when the toes get drug on the horse issue? Some quick googling says they carry dangerous disease that is transmittable.IMG_5584.png

To play devils advocate— APR has enough land to graze their own bison lol

My neighbor used to round up wild horses and either break em or eat em. He had one hanging one day and I asked him about it. “ ate the same grass on your property as the elk”.

I just walked away.
@Schaaf

Would you like to compare and contrast with elk? Doug burghams DOI seems to think we should be having horse bbq.
