curious who has the half/shoulder mounts? heard they have gotten spendy last few years. Would kind of like to do one of those next bear.

Bear shoulder/half mount at the taxidermist I use was cheaper than a rug.

Brass upholstery brads around the felt. The only place in the house it would fit. The cardboard at the bottom was added when MRS got her kitten. A marriage saving compromise.
It squares exactly 6'

I did the half mount last year. First bear and it nearly cost me same price as th outfitter I went too. $2300 to mount

Wow. I know it's been 20 years, but mine cost me $900. Prices have really gone up that much?

Solid taxidermists I’ve seen are 2-3k.

Sorry, the rugs were 2-3k. Mounts were cheaper. For a quality one, thick, nice backing. Shoulder mounts a little cheaper.

Thankfully where I live they just got rid of the mandatory keeping of hides from bears. If you keep the meat, you can leave the hides. Or you can take both. The fur bearing law kept a lot of people from hunting bears, so hopefully more people step up for the meat, and help lower the ridiculous population we have.
