Anyone have any experience with what a grizzly hide would be like the first 2 weeks of June? Looking at an Alaskan grizzly hunt but worried the hide quality might not be too good. I realize it depends on area, weather, etc but just wondered if anyone had any first hand knowledge. Thanks!

In my experience, you are asking for a rubbed hide by hunting in June. May is better. My father, brother and I took three Alaskan brown bears--all in May, and all had good hides. I shot a grizzly many years ago in B.C., also in May, and it had a great hide. Dad's grizzly was from NWT in September and also had a good hide.

T Bone, yea I'd like to. Problem is it would be 5 days after I get home from a Canadian black bear hunt and I haven't convinced my wife that I need to do both this year. I'm working on her though. :)

Don't know how much this info is worth, but here goes. A pard from ID just got back from Kodiak hunting brown bears. He stated that well over 75% of the bears they saw were very badly rubbed. The outfitter and guide commented that they hadn't ever seen this widespread of an issue with hides. He ended up shooting one, but it was smaller than a few he'd seen, but it had hair. Might be a bad year for hides, I don't know. So, FWIW...
