Well, I had. Monday off so I thought I'd give my friend Jon a call and see if I could get my deer tag filled, so we drove about 85 miles north of town here to a piece of private/state land I found a few years ago for my kids and I to hunt on...
After we got there, we spotted this young female coyote about 8:00 AM, and she took off for a safer environment... As you can see she never found that spot... LOL!! I swung through her as she ran full tilt across a alfalfa field and as I passed through her and took what I thought was a comfortable lead, I broke the trigger on the 6.5x284 and rolled her ... The shot was ranged afterward at 165 yds and the 140gr Hornady A-Max sleeping pill she injested struck her in the neck, making the landowner much happier that day... After this happened, I knew it was gonna be a good day... I never shoot at, let alone hit a running target... LOL!!
We'll after a few hours of walking and glassing, we spotted a herd of about 10 whitetails, so we thought we'd give em a shot. We got within about a half mile and then made plans for our final stalk. As we inched up to the top of a "grassy knoll" we spotted a doe feeding just 250 yds away, so we decided to wait her out and see if she would feed back down to the field below or maybe "something else" would come up to her. As she started to feed away this guy stood up to stretch his legs from his mid-morning nap. As we watched him, we noticed he ain't the biggest buck in the country, but he sure has some neat character. The shot was 250 yds and I put this guy right back to sleep with yet the 2nd Hornady A-Max sleeping pill of the day... To top it off, my friend Jon had a doe tag, so he asked if I wanted to get a double, so I handed him my rifle and he sent out yet a 3rd special delivery of the A-Max sleeping pill dropping that doe like she was struck by lightning!!
The buck weighed 201# dressed when they weighed him at the check station ...
And the doe was 144#... And you shoulda seen the fat on these 2!!!
So, my season is over but my kids still have tags to fill; deer for the daughter and deer and elk for my son... Still plenty of time left ... I HOPE! LOL!!
