Gratuitous Bird and Dog Photos

I’ve been too big of a chicken with this dog of mine. Adopted her four years ago as a maybe 3 year old with low obedience, high stubbornness, and not a lot of grace. She had some prey drive as I’ve seen her point doves, sparrows, and squirrels in the back yard. She’s a fence jumper in town and would run for a few blocks. I couldn’t take it any longer and took her out. Figured I owed her that. She blew me away.

She stayed close. She stepped on a cactus right away but carefully avoided them after that. Never whined or whimpered. She really followed her nose. We happened up a covey of hums that I reached for her remote instead of my shotgun. She stayed and watched them fly. Walked over to where they flushed to let her get a nose full. Had a straggler flush and I got off two warning shots. Never seemed to phase her. A few hundred yards later she bumped a jackrabbit and listened to the “leave it” command. Like a whole different dog from the neurotic mess she can be at home. We’ll be out again soon. She’s soft footed and out of shape this season, but she’s out there with me. And I don’t have to rely on friends for their dogs.
