Excited to say i got my 3rd ever deer yesterday. I tried to get a doe back during the doe season in Oct but I just never got a chance at one and so then rifle season comes along and after passing on a spike and small 8 point I finally got my doe. I do have a question about something rather strange I found i had made my shot at 50 yards and got a perfect double lung shot like I normally do well the deer did a roll and into a thorn bush (damn you deer) well i got it outta there and it was getting dark so I just hoisted it over my shoulder down the hill to where are bridge is and I gutted it there BUT I noticed as soon as I made my cut up at the top and started working down that inherently there was poo in there.. I never knicked the guts or shot them so what caused there to be a mound of poo? Also she had a healthy diet of corn

Congrats man, you're a bona fide killer now.

Are you 100% sure it was poo? I've seen clotted blood clump together internally that looks vaguely like deer pellets. Other possibility is that she had a full stomach and regurgitated a little bit when you hit her.

Where was your cut? The stomach? Rib cage to anus?

Where was the poo?

Cut is right where the chest plates meet the soft part or right where the guts are and I just find that the easiest way and ive done it on my last few and was okay

The poo was middle back of the deer property before you get to its nitters just up about 2 inchs and it was not pebbles it was like you took doggy doo and added corn and swished it in water and made a runny paste

Did you take pics?

There’s a few reasons it can happen. I wouldn’t worry about it. Do a careful job when you butcher the deer and you’ll be just fine.
I figure when it gets washed and cooked itll be fine I just don't want it to taste weird

It shouldn't so long as you got that material off any meat cuts. The poo itself isn't really a huge problem. Letting poo sit and the bacteria contained in it to flourish/invade the meat is what causes spoilage.
