It's been just over 3 weeks sense my last update and I've only been able to get out for 2 half day hunts.
Hunt #1: Went back to where me and my daughter had found a Gobblers roost the opening week. Got in early got close and hit my crow call and there was a immediate response. The bird wad still roosting in the same spot. The last time I had setup in a cleared fence line about 150 yards away with my daughter. After he flew down I'd call and while he'd call back he never came in and eventually worked away south into the woods. This morning I decided to push into the woods and setup close to the roost. I quietly worked my way in the dark got my decoy setup and sat down as grey light began I gave a soft call. I'd accidentally gotten closer then intended and the bird was probably 25 yards away in a tall tree. As he flew down he went directly overhead I could've practiced my wing shooting if I'd wanted. He landed about 50 yards behind me refused to call back or take interest in my calling. Then to add insult to injury walked right by where I'd had my decoy set up on the cleared fence line the week before. After that he worked his way under the fence into a large field where he spent the next few hours occasionally gobbling. I eventually gave up on him especially after he picked up a couple hens and tried a couple other spots. Didn't run into any other turkey that day but found a ton of fresh sign in one of my favorite spots always nice before having to head to work.
Hunt #2: Got out for another half day last Monday. Headed to the same spot to see if I could find the Gobbler on his roost again. Got there early again got to the top of the ridge blew the crow call and silence. I worked over that piece of public for about a hour and a half without hearing a gobble or seeing a bird. Headed to my backup spot checked it out even setup and called in a area where I've had luck at in the past. Again nothing seen or heard so I moved along to plan C. Plan C can be glassed pretty well before heading to the parking area if you know where to look from. As I pulled up to the glassing area I noticed black blobs with my naked eye immediately. My binos confirmed birds in the field strutting and in a good area to approach them without being seen. Headed to the parking and slipped into the treeline to use the woods and a ditch as cover. As I drew opposite of where I estimated the birds had been I headed to the edge of the woods and poked my head up over the brush. I was face to face with two jakes about 40 yards away that appeared to be playing around in the field and could have easily shot either. Unfortunately they were about 10 yards inside private so I'd have to call them over for a chance. I got back down worked my way over to a small clearing/opening in the brush and began calling. I immediately got a return call but not the jakes a hen responded immediately from the woods I'd just walked through. I kept calling and after a minute one of the jakes gobbled weakly but it didn't come from in front of me where I'd last seen them but from almost directly off my left shoulder. Which meant the bird was definitely on public. I called and waited but nothing just a few faint clucks. I stuck my head up over the brush after a few minutes and looked around nothing. I stepped into the cleared fence line and headed towards where I'd heard the gobble and clucks going slow and keeping a eye out. After 20 yards boom there they where a Jake and two hens I'm a small opening in the woods. I raised my shotgun put it on the Jakes head and hesitated it seemed a bit to far for my liking and lowered the gun. That was enough movement for the birds and they'd had enough and ran off deeper into the woods. I paced it off after 46 yards probably could've made the shot but made a judgment call in the moment. It was 11:00am by then and had to head to work.
Friday is our final day of season and I'm hoping to get at least one more hunt in before then.

My Dad and I both have it. I am going on 5 years now and still can't eat beef or pork. I can eat wild game in small portions (except bear) and Dad can now eat all the wild game he wants, lives on Deer and Elk. I'm in Northeastern KY by the Ohio river and it's getting way to common here.

I’ve been limited out for a week but the dang turkeys have been really active the last 3 days. I hope it’s the same for you as you close your season out.Not yet but I can hear the fat lady warming up in the changing room

A friend in Indiana hunted hard most of the season there and ended up getting his bird this Sunday afternoon, the last day of the season.Not yet but I can hear the fat lady warming up in the changing room

Last week was the best action I've seen sense the first week of April. Got everything lined out to come in late tomorrow so gonna give it a go in the morning.
