Gobble gobble Spring Turkey 2025

A Jake, a Tom, a shed, a fossil, and an ambered hunk of petrified wood.
Zero regret taking off early from work today. The Tom is an absolute tank of a bird. Luckily I was able to drop them in the field above the river and drive up to them.

Nice one! Pretty damn good 1st bird too.
Talked to her last night and she was a happy gal! Find any sheds?
Be see you guys soon.
We split up yesterday. She wanted to hunt some birds that we'd seen earlier this spring and I wanted to hit the big hills. I heard one gobble off in the distance at about 10 am. Found a nice mule deer set. Seen some grouse and a lot of doe. She was pumped. We'll hunt on sat too.

Looking at the tail feathers we thought it might have some Rio Grande. Where she was hunting, I thought there were only Merriam's.
Before clicking on your thumbnail and seeing the fan I literally thought "is that a NM rio?". Not sure where you are but I've seen them in the NE corner all the way west of Raton.

You should send a sample in to that guy they had the meat eater podcast who is doing DNA samples of turkeys to see it’s genetic makeup.

I started a new thread encouraging hunters to consider this with their unique turkeys (this spring) and more regular turkeys next year
