Well my hunting buddy and I will be leaving for montana the end of next week so I have been getting stuff ready.I got the jeep oil changed and a tune up done for the 1450mile trip one way. My rifle I am having built wont be ready until June so I had to get my 25-06 ready I got it loaded up with h4831 and some 110gr nosler accubonds. My best group with the savage was 3/4" at 200yds and the worst was 2 1/4'' at 200yds.I also got the tick spray that some of the guys here recomended. The warning on the bottle was to rinse of your skin for 15-20minutes if you get it on the skin, lets just say I stuck my hands under the faucet for awhile after I was done. The can I had spray all over I should have worn gloves.I also have plenty of knifes and some game bags incase we get lucky and find a bear. All the optics are clean and clear.Maps,GPS, lights, broke in boots, cold and warm weather clothing and raingear, tags bought,a couple big coolers, and misc items are ready. Is there anything else that is a must I may not have thought of?I cant wait to take of and get out there and put on some miles hunting bears.

You have your hunter's orange? That is one people forget. Sounds like you have it. Keep my cell number and let me know how you are doing. If you need some help or not seeing anything, let me know, I can point you in a direction or two. You are gonna see some bears for sure.

No snowshoes but I got the blaze orange. The tick spray I got is sawyers yellow and black can from cabelas not sure the brand everyone else uses but I think anything oderless with peremthrin in it will work.

Take lots of pictures and be sure to share when you get back.
Good luck!

I was out the other day to check a spot for morels around here and was in the woods about 1/2 hour and pulled six ticks off my clothes when I got in the jeep.Went home stripped down in my garage and took a shower later that evening I found one of the little buggers imbeded in my wrist.I wish I would have had the spray to try out then and see how it works.Wich spotting scope should I use I have a straight 20X weaver and also a cabelas brand that goes to 45X or 60x.the 20x is alot lighter to pack but I dont want to sacrafice anything by going with one that weighs less what are your thoughts?

You are driving out here, just bring em both. You have put too much into the hunt already to pick. I am not sure where you plan on hunting exactly, but after walking a few of these logging roads and see how far you can't see anyway in this jungle, I am betting after the first day you will opt for lighter or no spotter at all, as your binocs will suffice. There are some monster burns up in the north fork north of Whitefish that one might find a spotter handy, glassing across drainages. I haven't been up there at all and don't know the snow conditions either.

And I will also say, I haven't had a tick in about 3 years. If you get up around the koocanusa reservior in that drier buck brush and cliffy shale, then yeah, better coat yourself in that stuff. But here, I don't use it, never seen the need for it in these woods.

What about a bicycle? If you have room or ability, maybe throw that in too. Some of these areas are easy bike rides, get you in farther and faster.

Negative on the bike drathaar,I thought long and hard about it and planned on taking a bike or two but I just wont have enough room.I guess it will just be alot of foot work.I do think it would be a big help though.

Your timing is going to be perfect. The bears are just now starting to really be visible. Good luck on your hunt!
