Not long ago, I picked up what I'm going to call a Frankenchester.
It's a Winchester 94 and the receiver dates to 1928, the wood and short mag tube likely original to it, but the barrel has been replaced with a much later model barrel.
I didn't catch the "truglo" rod on the front sight in the pictures, but it was assembled perfectly and refinished completely and with the compass embedded on the top of the buttstock, it actually matched a 1930 custom 94 carbine in 32-40 that I had picked up only a month earlier.
I likely overpaid, but I've been after something in 25-35 and it was so darned handsome, I had to have it... mostly because I found Hornady's Leverevolution in 25-35 hit the market so I bought four boxes before I even owned something to use them with.
It had both a rear sight and a tang mounted peep sight, and even with my 60 year old eyes, I was printing 1.5" groups at 100 yards... The best I've ever done with peep sights.
I fell in love with it and it's definitely coming into the woods with me.
The Hornady ammo is effective on whitetail farther than I will ever need to shoot it.
