Has anyone used any of the cabins available through recreation.gov to hunt Elk out of? I am in the beginning stages of planning for a possible Montana trip in 2019. Booking and staying in one of these is an idea we are considering. Feedback would be helpful. Thanks in advance.

I've stayed in them. They are a good option if you don't have a wall tent with a stove and you want to be closer to the hunting. A nice wood stove and a roof over your head is hard to beat after a hard day hunting.

The good ones go the second they're available..

I’ve never hunted out of them, but Ive spent some time in a few during the winter. Always enjoy them.

As RL mentioned, you better be on the website at midnight six months prior. I’ve got a couple buddies visiting from back east in August. I tried reserving three as soon as they opened, but didn’t get any of them...

Stayed in one with indoor flush toilet, shower, propane heat and a great kitchen. It was really nice . Get on it early.

You also might want to see what winter is like around the cabin you want. You may be snowmobiling into it.

Cheap lodging but sign up early.
Lots are snowmobile only by rifle season.

Sounds nice. Any structures I find here in NM are long abandoned, dangerous, and full of the Hanta virus!

Oh, and haunted. They’re all haunted too.

Some of those all places are darn right spooky! And, yes full of mice carrying that nasty virus. How did New Mexico get blessed with the Hanta virus?
