Fishing the Gulf

Been hooked ,no pun intended, on a channel called "Bama Saltwater", it has me craving a trip to the gulf. What are the best months? Would.like a 1 day charter and some jetty/ surf fishing.

Wait until it’s not so hot. Humid with a heat index well over 100 right now. It will be at least Oct before it cools down much at all.

Man, we used to crush the speckled trout and reds fishing inshore around Bon Secour, off Mobile Bay. Very similar to bass fishing. Fort Morgan also has a great pier about an hour drive from Orange Beach. Then, I'd book a charter boat to head out and hit the oil rigs. Lord only knows what you can pull up from under one of those. Hit up Billy's Seafood Market if you're in the area.

I’m with you! I’ve vacationed a few times recently in Florida and have been consumed with the desire to fish, catch crab and dive for Lobster.
The wife and I were in Cape Coral the end of July and I did a bit of Blue Crabbing with some traps I bought. Caught a few and got even more hooked…..can’t wait to head back for the month of January

All my info is based on the Texas gulf from Galveston to Port A. April and May are my favorite for inshore reds and specks. June seems to be the best for offshore snapper fishing. October can be good for redfish. November and December the bay fills with flounder but bag limits are lowered and even closed at times.

I’ve fished a lot of great places. I’d take Florida, inshore, DIY over a chartered Alaska trip. Snook, Redfish, trout, pompano, blue crabs. It really doesn’t get much better.

We have been hammering the redfish the past few weeks in the marsh. They are staging up to run into the gulf to spawn. You have to fish early or real late, cause it has been Africa hot during the day. Tarzan couldn't take this kind of hot. Hotter than a blistered pussy in a pepper patch.
On the gulf, the best time to fish is October. Problem is, that's archery deer season too. I'm usually torn.
