First post and first buck. I’ve hunted doe antelope for years but didn’t draw a tag in either Wyoming or my home state of Colorado this year. I’ve been saving up points and learning how to hunt them by getting doe tags. This hunt was last minute with a left over type-2 tag. I called ranches in the area but they all wanted big money to trespass. I was finally pointed to a smaller ranch (500 acres) and the owner charged next to nothing but had a large group hunting opening weekend.

I drove out on the 11th and found a large herd in a drainage. There were four bucks, three on the outer edge and one in the middle of about 30 does. After crawling and belling sliding I closed the distance to 160 yds. Had to sit up to shoot due to the grass and sage brush. One shot with the .243 and the nicest buck in the herd was down. These antelope were very jumpy which made this a long and tricky stock!

Great buck, and a good reason to avoid opening week.
Congrats and safe travels home.

WOW! Incredible buck. You definitely saved up all your luck for that guy.

That's one way to introduce yourself to the forum...

I like hearing the DIY and taking the time to learn. You really earned this one. Nicely done.

Thanks! I’m no expert on judging antelope but I’ve been told he’s good. He definitely was bigger then everything else I was looking at that morning. I’m glad he gave me a shot after herding the does together and running two other bucks away.
