Well after two taxidermists, and a few headaches, I finally got my deer back.

At on point, I thought I'd never see the rack again, I also considered how I was going to get away with breaking and entering...

Fairly pleased with how it turned out though. Never mind the dust on the fan... The wife lost the french maid outfit, so not much cleaning gets done now... not that much did before. ;)

have you tried beating her?

nice buck! :)

Nice Bambi...I didn't rememeber that little sticker on his right side!

....you aren't wearing that outfit now are you

Two years?!?! I can see why you wondered about seeing it again!
Great buck though BS! Was that from Colorado?

I've had quite a few comments on the ears. I like the pose fine, but I told him to leave the splits in the left ear, but I guess he thought he should sew it up. My guess is he didn't want to dick with it.

Now if I'd have paid the 'going' rate of a western taxidermist I'd have been ok with it, but since I'm living out here in CHIThole Maryland, finding a good taxidermist that can mount anything besides whitetail deer is a challenge, let alone finding one that doesn't charge an arm and a leg is near impossible. I figued for the price I'd have him make the ears like I want. I won't even mention what I have in this mount... LOL We'll just say my taxi buddy in MT will mount an elk for about $100 more! Really not much I can do about it now, I didn't get anything in writing stating what I wanted, should have learned that they don't keep thier word... now that its all glued up and done. I'll hang it on my wall and admire it as is. Just glad to get it back!

Yeah the deer was from CO, killed on a leftover rifle tag. ;)

As far as the taxidermist story goes. The first guy I dropped it off with was friggn worthless. My buddy had great luck with him in the past with numberous other mounts as well as a few of his friends having him mount stuff, so I figued this guy must be alright. Well after about 5 broken promisses, and finally not returning phone calls and having it for 14 months, I started invstigating what kind of legal action I could take against him, and 16 months later I figued I'd go knock on his home door and demaded it back. He told me to come back and get it a week later. The only word he made good on was giving it back. If I'd not gotten it back, well I'm not sure what I would have done. The cape was half assed tanned, and the horns were mounted on a form that was 3 sizes to big for the cape. I'm really glad I had someone else take care of it, I can only imagine what it would have looked like had he 'finished' it. I then took it to the guy that ended up mounting it, who said it would be done in June... Yeah right. Friggn taxidermists, they're all the same LOL. What a friggn nightmare, I'm glad its over!

Luckily I only have 6 other  animals at a diffrent Taxidermist waiting to get mounted... One was supposed to be done by the end of September. ;) I doubt I'll see until Feb at the earliest.

The more and more I think about it, the more I'm going to look into learning how to do it myself. I can't imagine its rocket science, anyone with any talent should be able to do it.

care to mention who?

If you want it done right send it to MT and I will do it for you in 6 months.
You will have some shipping on it but you will get it back like you want it.
Most of my customers are out of state, so I deal with it allot..

Care to put that in writing? LOL If I had a dollar for everytime I heard that I'd be about half way to paying off my next african trip. LOL No offence to you, but its always the same ol song and dance.

Thanks for the offer and I'll keep ya in mind for the next western animal I shoot worthy of the wall. I know a taxi in the Ennis area that does good work and turns them around pretty fast too.

The worthless POS here in Maryland is Glen Jenkins. He used to have a deer cutting/taxidermy shop, but closed about 5-6 years ago. He was just doing taxi work part time in a shop in his back yard, but I've heard that he's opening another place on the shore somewhere for this season. So if you're looking for a good taxidermist or meat cutter he's your man. :D

Glen Jenkins roflmao.i know Glen.
he hunts dorchester county not far from me.
