Finally getting in the trees

Been a crazy busy fall for me, but I can finally go deer hunt without feeling guilty about skipping out on study time!

Trying to decide where to set up tonight (I haven't been able to scout this season so I'm going in blind), what does the group think?


Public is the pink area. Parking spots at 1 or 2, I hunted 3 last year and saw a small to med sized buck there, sat on 4 once with nothing seen previously. (Hard to tell but all the trees are in a small ravine to get an idea of structure.




Curious to what others think of this area/hunting possibilities, we don't have many trees in my part of the world, so there will be other hunters out I'm sure, but thats the name of the public hunting game!

I don't know exactly the scale here, but below 3 a bit, 3-4 times the height of the numeral "3" would be an interesting place to be as it is a bifurcation point of two main tributaries of riparian woodiness (for lack of a better term). There appears to be a prominent (anthropogenic?) path there leading to the NW that may mean it is too disturbed for your purposes. ESE of the farmstead (north of 1) along the property line looks better than 4. But one cannot say much from aerials that cannot be overruled from boots on the ground.

Had a small buck come in on path number two. I think I messed up, I grunted at him right about at the number two and he trotted off faster than before. Maybe he was too young to try a grunt? I would guess he was last years fawn as he was a spike or a fork.

A little chilly up in the tree, and a god awful number of sticky weeds, but I enjoyed being in the woods again!

I wouldn't overlook the other side of that road in the tiny strip of woods between private and that big field. Maybe check it for deer sign when you get some snow.
