Here's an article from the local paper, I just edited out the names.

This makes it really embarrassing to be from California...

Catch em, treat em, fix em and then let em go again. Just like the gang-bangers.

I'd rather fix em with a .17 HMR.

I gotta get outta here!

Humane society to alter, treat feral cats

PASADENA - Wild cats, it's time to get snipped.

Sunday, the Humane Society & SPCA is hosting one of its bi-annual "Spay-A-Thons" for feral, or non-domesticated, cats.

Appointments are required, and those interested should call the group's Spay Neuter program,

Between 50 and 100 cats are spayed or neutered, eartipped, tested for feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus, groomed for fleas and given vaccinations free of charge at each event, said Humane Society spokeswoman.

"Spaying and neutering feral cats is the only way we're going to be able to get a handle on the population," said the local humane society. "We have to stop the breeding of unwanted animals."

[They] explained that feral cats in urban areas turn to "survival mode" on the streets: fighting for food, spreading disease and reproducing.

"Not only is there the overpopulation issue, there's the issue of illness and disease," he said. "They carry FIV and feline leukemia, internal and external parasites. They can also be detrimental to wild bird populations, ground-nesting birds especially."

[They] noted that feral cats live in "colonies," which typically form in isolated areas that include shelter and a consistent source of food and water.

She said animal lovers who care for these cats are often kind enough to trap them and bring them in for the humane society's spay/neuter events.

[They]added that feral cats pose a threat to domesticated house cats that are allowed outside.

"We really recommend during springtime months that people keep cats indoors," he said. "Cats should be kept indoors because of predators - coyotes, owls, animals like that that roam."

50-100 a year? Man they'll get a handle on the population in no time at that rate.

Feral cats are fair game IMO. No collar, no problems
