Wanted to give the wife a lazy weekend mountian getaway.
We called around but almost every lodge and hotel was booked solid. We finally found an out of the way lodge with one room left.
Took off Sat. AM, got up to Huntington lake, and found out why everything was booked. It was the weekend of the High Sierra Regatta, a big sailboat race.
Wall to wall tourists from L.A. and San Fran.
So we headed to Tamarack ridge and checked into our room.There is a small creek, but the kid wanted to climb trees, throw rocks and generally get dirty, so I headed up the creek by myself.
Small water, small fish.
I tossed some small spinners and got lots of action from micro trout, all catch and release.
Later, after some 1 lb ribeyes, we stoked up the community fire pit and made S'mores.
About dark, a whole mess of kids and family's showed up with marshmellows.
They didn't seem to know how to keep a fire going, so we hung around and helped them, the kids all had a blast.
