Hi,I'm new to this site.My name's Joey,I'm from Pennsylvania and I am planning on looking to buy a house in Idaho next year. But I'm not sure which area to move to.Im looking for a place where there is a lot of elk in the area, and a otc tag.( No guides)I don't want an area where I got to put in for points or anything like that.Ive been going out to Powell,Idaho for about 19 years now.I like the terrain and everything about that unit.So can anybody help me find a good unit or 2?

Idaho has no points system . draw hunts are strictly , luck of the draw. there are many OTC opportunities throughout the state not every unit and one must pick the region and often the weapon and sometimes(but not always) the sex they wish to hunt.

I have lived in Idaho all my life (52 years ) and have no idea where powell Idaho is and am way to lazy to look now. 😁 but if you have any specific questions about the state , I would be happy to answer ,if I am able.
tip- avoid adams and blaine county unless you enjoy living in commie country.

Thank you,Powell Idaho is like an hour from Missoula Mt. It's right by the pass when Montana and Idaho joins.Anyway ya I go out there every year for archery season. Its a little rugged but not bad.And a over the counter tag is a must for where I'd go to.Is there any unit you recommend that you'd think I like?

no not really. every unit has something to offer .IMO

Will you be relocating to ID or just investing in real estate there?
I am looking to buy a house there and pay on it back here for a few years.I love to hunt elk in archery season and I'm trying to find a good unit that has a lot of elk and that's when I will search for a house around that area.

??? So you're going to live in PA and then default on your mortgage in ID after a few years? I'm trying to get a concept of your situation but I'm lost. I don't know anyone who buys a house in order to elk hunt. Considered a motel, or camper?

Plus if you buy a house then realise you don't like hunting that area what are you going to do then?

I always wanted to live there. But I ha

I always wanted to move there.I have to do some research on what area I'd like the most.

Im not sure why someone is getting bashed a bit for thinking abt a 2nd home out west I have thought about it, I love Idaho and my home is getting close to being paid for granted the logistics are tough. the unit I go to a home or cabin wouldnt help much but Im sure some areas it could make things easier and theirs more to the west than just elk season
people buy cabins , beach houses all the time

If you’ve been going to Idaho from Pennsylvania for 20 years then it won’t be nothin to go from Idaho to Idaho wherever you live. Congratulations!!
