I recently moved to Washington State from Colorado and I'm looking to find some elk on public ground. Yes, I was spoiled in Colorado, but I recently filled my deer tag and I'd like to give elk a shot here. I plan on this year being a scouting year more than a killing year so I'm going into it with a realistic mentality. Does anyone have any experience on units 113 and 117? It looks like there is a lot of publis to tromp around on but I'm sure there will be plenty hunters. Any input would be appreciated.

Expect low elk densities, low even for WA. Lots of public land. Once you get away from the roads you'll eliminate a great majority of the competition. Beautiful country, good luck with your trip.

I talked to the owner of Four Track Outfitters regarding bears and he told me that his clients take some tremendous elk up around Oroville where he lives. I think he said the biggest was 373.
