Anyone have good stories?

We were beat to our number 1 field Saturday morning, and instead of being cordial, the guy who beat us to the field (who had NOT gained permission for himself) was a bit of an ass.

So instead of traveling to our number 2 field, I let the devil horns grow out of my head and we decided to set up in another field about a half mile away and run traffic on the field we were beat to (I emphasize that normally we would just go to our next choice field, but this man's attitude was more than I could handle without retaliation).

to finish my story...

We set up with approximately 13 or 14 dozen fullbody honker dekes, another 5 or 6 dozen duck dekes and a pair of spinners.

We ended up with 14 honks and a smorgasborg of 28 ducks including mallards, pintails, wood ducks, widgeon and a bluebill. Pictures to follow.

Good going Smalls. Sounds like fun. I have always wanted a fall plumage wood duck to mount. Did any of the pintails have good color?

Nemont

We open up this weekend. I will be headed to about 70 west of Nemont to find some birds. Although I am looing forward to the trip, I still have some work to do to get ready. Guess I have been spending too much time chasing furred game so for this year. Not that it has done me much good.

The woodies were completely full plumage. There was a wide variety of plumage stages on the greenies, from barely distinguashable to nearly full plumage.

I saw several drab pintail drakes and one pretty nice one. The only thing it was missing was its sprig (the "pin" tail). Although one guy we hunted with who does taxidermy said they often use a trimmed crow feather for the sprig in mounts.

We're off to Freeze out Sunday(I always have to work on Saturdays)There is some water in it this year and some ducks have arrived, like some teal and pintails, of course we have are resident flocks of mallards and Honkers. It may be a fair year for water foul if it descent freeze early! :D

Smalls.... Any good woodies that yo shoot if you could freeze one or two I know a Taxidermist that would take them off your hands. They are always looking for some to mount around here for people. I personally like to shoot my own (Or at least be ther and have guner shoot them ;) )....

Oh! man would I like to have a woody!
Did that come out right? I've already shot a few ducks this year and one was banded. My brother that came up for that Bou hunt did great on his first duck hunt everd, he shot three banded birds off the first pond we jumped.
Sam some geese the other day,and like most of them there headed south.
Saturday we saw a bunch of cranes flying overhead, but we where after smaller fish to fry, like Grouse.Thats about it for me so far this year.Daniel

Moosie, I will get a couple this weekend. Stupid wedding will prevent me from hunting the mornings, but I am going to take a stroll down the river Sunday afternoon to get some greenheads and woodies.
