Can you give me the low down on the New Mexico elk draw system? Do you have to draw or do they have over the counter tags? It seems like there is a concern of drawing private land hunts without having permission-true? Any tricks to making sure you get drawn? anything else to consider? I know what to do once I decide where I'm going as far as checking stats, maps and talking to locals/scouting.

I can try to answer your questions about elk in New Mexico.
All public elk hunts are draw.

For Landowner tags you get a form from landowner and buy license from Game and Fish.

It is possible to draw a unit with limited access, but you can't draw a private land hunt without permission.

i don't know any tricks to get drawn, but I wouldn't check the fourth choice unless you really don't care what you draw. You could draw a cow hunt in feb or march in a crappy area.
