I made a post a couple of months ago in the feathers and wings section titled Drakes first turkey. It told a little bit about Drake my 8 year old and his 1st turkey with a few field pics.
Well here is the rest of the story.
I have a taxidermy business and I wanted ro do something special for his 1st turkey. I went for more of an artistic base instead of a traditional earth habitat. The limb the bird is on I found while hunting several years ago in Wyoming. It had nice character so I brought it back to Oklahoma and its been laying in the shop waiting for the right taxidermy piece. Drake was probably 2 years old then. I simply overlaid the wood with epoxy sculpt, painted it black umber, and applied a bit of copper colored paint to give it a bronzed effect.I ordered the walnut pieces you see and the 12" pipe is just scrap water line fron our rural water dept. I just painted it black. After I funished the turkey I attatched it to the completed base. Hopefully someday Drake looks at this mount and it becomes more special to him after it sinks in that when he was 8 his dad guided him on his first ever turkey kill that he shot with a .410 and then his dad mounted it for him to have as the memory.

Great job. I feel like turkey mounts never do justice for how pretty they are alive, but this one is done very well! Also, the base is pretty cool. I'm sure your son will love it.

@okie archer that red is dead on for a live bird that is fired up.

Nice work on the mount
Thank you, I thought it might be a bit harsh. I have been using pan pastels instead of just lacquer based airbrushing. It seems to not look as "painted" with pan pastels. However I think I should airbrush a coat of clearcoat over this to tone down the "powder" look.
