Dove opener.

Do you have to figure the Eurasians in your bag limit? I know some states allow you to shoot all of them you want, some even have no closed season.
No. CA is year round and no bag limits. Morning Doves were being jerks and flying too high so some Eurasians had to be taken

I’m ready for Saturday afternoon.

We're just beginning to see a few in the last couple of years. They started out in Florida and crossed the country and all the way up to BC but the Atlantic seaboard and the Northeast are to be the last part of the country to be infested. Some of our beach communities in NC are beginning to see an increase in numbers, more so than inland.

Took a little longer in the hurricane winds on day 2, but more feathers in the mouth for Slash.

Opened this morning in Louisiana. A buddy and I drew on a WMA lottery. Never been to the place before and just picked spots in the dark. Talking to the WMA guys there were birds before the storm but they’ve since been a little screwed up.
One small area in the field had a power line and good food on the ground. Those 4 guys had a good shoot. The rest of us watched from safe gun range like a dog waiting for food to fall off the kitchen table. I took a shot a 1 bird and only got feathers.

Finally getting to go tomorrow.
Hopes are not high, since I'm limited to public land.
But you can't kill them on the couch! At the very worst I'm going to spend a day with a good friend

Update:
no doves, maybe saw 10 on 3 different tracts of public land in a 12 hour window.
We go 3 for 3 on squirrels though (y)

I don't have a field to hunt over, just a barnyard where they come in for gravel and various weed seeds. The wind stopped and I went to check things out. Only saw one dove, but I brought it home! Still have a great average, 4 birds with 2 shells! That will change.

I shot a limit today. Poppers tomorrow.

Obviously, I'm happy for all y'all success, but it only makes my experience that much more frustrating. We hunted the same public field we've been hunting for a couple of years now (Moriarty Open Gate Property near Albuquerque, NM) and saw only a half dozen birds or so. Serves me right, I "promised" a buddy we'd see birds, never doing that again.

Our opener was a good one Sat in VA. Seven of us filled limits off a sunflower field and my brother and I were the last to packup at 5 to let the field rest. One of the farm owners, a retired 90 year old Marine Colonel, had the first limit. Thankfully we were able to mow last weekend and had plenty of feed to bring them in close. We shall try this afternoon again.
