Did a stupid thing

For my birthday, after sleeping in a tipi and celebrating with a can of frozen ravioli and frozen Coors, some friends and I got together and decided to partake in fancy whiskey drinking. We proceeded to sign up for the Arches Ultra trail race in Moab. 2 of us got signed up for the 1/2 Marathon Trail and 2 did the 50K. I was very unprepared and actually over hydrated which I'm told can be as bad as dehydrated and I cramped up really bad. I got passed by the first place 50k runner the last 1/4 mile.

The really stupid thing is that I got signed up for a 50K in June

Atta Boy! June can get warm there. I like the idea of Winter or Spring run ....

I've finished 2 50k's. The real endurance is the 18 weeks of training. By the time the race comes its just another long run...

Starting our Trail Running group This Sunday!

That’s a pretty darn cool accomplishment. The idea of running 50k makes my knees want to explode just thinking about it. So, come June, good luck!
I'd just love to be able to run again!
Being old and crippled ain't for the faint of heart! LOL!

Good for you man. It’s awesome to hear guys who finish stuff like this

Whisky doesn't have that effect on me but hey, cool! Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

I had never run much on pavement but there was about 5 to 6 miles on slickrock (sandstone bedrock). My knees ached for a day longer than I had planned. Definitely needed road shoes versus the trail shoes I wore. Lessons learned...thus the Henry McKenna

Luckily there are 4 or 5 of us that are close that will train together. My friend Tara is an Ultra Runner and has a 100miler in July so she's doing a 50 miler in June to warm up. I think a 50K is where my extreme max is.

Excellent work. I did the Siskiyou Out and Back race once. The leaders were passing me on the return at an embarrassingly far from the turnaround point.
