Deer Crashes Through Iowa Party HQ Window

DES MOINES, Iowa - An errant young deer left a gaping hole in the front window of the Iowa Democratic Party downtown headquarters on Monday afternoon after jumping through the glass.
It happened around 4:30 p.m.
John McCormally, a spokesman for the party, said there were five staff members working in the front room when the deer broke through the plate glass window, jumped onto a table and then hobbled to a back room.
An animal control officer came to attend to the injured deer, which McCormally said was probably about three or four months old. He believed its legs were broken and that it would likely be euthanized.
The downtown headquarters is surrounded by buildings and some of the busiest streets in Des Moines. McCormally said the deer may have come from a construction site near a local lake about a mile away.
"We don't know where it came from. Honestly, there's not a lot of timber downtown," he said.
McCormally said the incident left workers "a little bit rattled."
He hoped a new window could be installed by Tuesday.
