I had a farmer hit me up about removing a few beavers from his property this winter. . I thought sure why not, always trying to help out if I can. I had been hunting wood ducks in the area anyway and haven't trapped much since the early 80's. Wes and I took a couple of his cameras down to get a few pics ( his cameras are never set up with the correct time and date...drives me nuts) anyway we got a few pics of about everything. . thought I would share. We have caught a few coons, 7 muskrats, 1 mink, but 0 beavers!!!!
FYI. . .these beaver have drawn a line in the mud by the way... tonight we are going to do battle in the moonlight with a 10/22!!!
Anyone have a guess as to what the one beaver in the pic will weigh??

Only two woodies and all those fisheaters. Don't know about the beaver's weight, but if planning on shooting them they'll usually leave their lodge area right before dark and return at first light.. Down here they'll usually dam up a small branch or feeder stream to a river to establish a lodge then travel the river at night to peel bark and kill trees so to keep them under control we ambush them when they are going to work or coming home.

To trap them just go damage a small spot on the top of their dam and set your trap(s) by the damaged spot. They'll come to do repairs and .....gotcha.

Well. . .after work last night we loaded up and headed to the "beaver war zone". We had a foot trap sprung and actually hit pay dirt with one of my 330's!! We reset the foot trap, broke a hole in the dam again, but, we forgot the trap setter for the 330. . .If you have ever tried to set one of those by hand...you know the struggle is real!! We didn't get it done and just moved one to replace it. I'm sure it would have been funny to see us trying to get it set. After we got everything settled, we stood and waited....it didn't take long and had one tail slap when we hit it with the light....few minutes and another tail smack off in the dark...finally had one coming in and Wes hit the light, I fired, he flopped and rolled over....and then sank!!!!! Blood everywhere in the water, I have on chest waders so in I go. We knew it was pretty deep from when we were duck hunting ( I was guessing 4ft-5ft maybe. . . .I was wrong! I believe it may be 6-8ft. . .we did not recover it, but Wes was going down this morning with a canoe to drag him out. I'm not giving Jerimiah Johnson any competition, but, I'm having a blast!

A couple of weeks ago the place was crawling with woodies, I'd say 200 or so. We shot a few, but didn't hurt those numbers. LOL.

Well I'm at 3 beavers in the past 2 days!! Jerimiah Johnson who? LOL It sure is a ton more fun checking traps if you actually have something in them!! :D Its too bad the fur market is in the gutter this year, but, glad I just bought a new deep freeze!

Well I have caught 4 beavers so far (all females). The one I caught yesterday was a tank...67 lbs and 47 inches long...another female! Sorry pics aren't too good. Did I mention Im having a blast?? LOL
