DC 827

I finally got into hunting last year, after having moose in the freezer to eat. I decided to put in for some tags. Don’t know 20A, but doing all the research I can. I live in unit 15. Appreciate any tips on DC 827. Thanks in advance

Welcome aboard! Been down in your area a couple times. Planning another trip this fall to our place around Willow. Good luck on the hunt. I have a friend that goes to that area for 'bou. Don't know many details, though.

There are a few options to hike/wheeler off the Parks, but the good spots are fly in. Call Wrights in FBX and get a spot lined out. This is a great tag that should be hunted right, dont half ass it and shoot a dink, you can do that off the Denali highway. This is a great opportunity to take that once in a lifetime bull.

Thanks, the info I could find that’s what I kept reading on once in a lifetime tag. I’m willing to walk or use fourwheeler. Not a good year to afford fly in. Is wrights a person or place? Time of year matter much?

My cost-benefit analyses from last year (replying to you here rather than the older thread) suggest this is one of, if not, the most reasonable ($) / trophy quality fly-in 'bou hunts in the state...if you can draw the tag.

Folks generally have either:
1) limited time but less limited $ = fly in and out.
2) less limited time but limited money = ???
3) limited time and limited money = weekend/long weekend hike in and out.
[If you're not limited by time or money, you're either incredibly lucky or retired]

When I applied, I thought if I got lucky I would hike-in. After some research and soul searching, I convinced myself I could fit in category #2 and flew in with Wright's. One flight, two guys, all the gear that could be needed, a borrowed raft, ~10 days, <$1,000.

I didn't end up with a monster, but a respectable bull, along with a heckuva time in some grand scenery.

I’m rotational right now, but might be laid off soon, so have more time than money spend, but that isn’t bad at all for fly in. Congrats on that bull, the only unfortunate thing is I won’t be able to scout area first and only have a 2 wheel drive fourwheeler. So just trying to research as much as I can. Looks like it was a great trip, thanks for the response, did you raft out? you run into any moose on the trip?
