Gotcha. I know that nobody wants a data center (I certainly dont and we do them everyday). But I dont understand how that's a bad thing for every union employee in your valley, If they're gonna build it anyway.

True, but you could also say they are working on data centers instead working on something else. We don't have appreciable unemployment

With the caveat that I'm increasingly turning into the old man yells at cloud meme when it comes to tech and AI, and that I think the data revolution is causing way more harm than good for society as a whole, and the caveat that there are environmental concerns and data centers are a blight on the landscape, I recognize that they have to be somewhere and I'm not wholesale against their existence, even in my state. But I am very opposed to our monopoly utility giving them sweetheart deals on energy infrastructure that everyone else will pay to develop while giving them priority if demand outweighs supply, and I'm very opposed to cities and counties trying to woo them with tax breaks. It feels like they're going around testing locations trying to make it seem like there's a bidding war to get them, and politicians are buying it hook, line, and sinker.

We all end up paying in the end. We have a ton of these data centers this side of the state because of the availability of electricity from the dams (which is declining). Some of them were bitcoin mining centers and we had similar discussions on what is best for everyone, not just the contractors who build the centers.
Avista seeks to raise residential price for electricity by about 25% by 2030
Avista Utilities announced Friday that it has proposed a four-year general rate increase for Washington customers that calls for a 13.9% increase for average residential users starting in 2027.

Sat in a High Level meeting today about the Data Center outside Cheyenne. It was open source, white paper stuff that META/Investment Are seriously looking at the pocket Nuclear Power that France perfected. Jokes aside, France did an excellent job of keeping that technology consistent no matter the Contractor.
So there is this for Power with all excess going back to the grid.

No. We have a handful of them in Yorkville to do or so I've heard. That would be too much country driving for me so ill probably end up in the one we have by O'hare
. Sure don't like them but thats out of my hands. May as well take the money I guess.

Even if they do generate more taxes the government will just spend the new revenue faster than it comes in. We passed gambling a few years ago and that was gonna solve all of our tax burdens. Well, everything else is still taxed the same and now we have people losing what money they had saved from the government to casinos. At least we have taxpayer funded programs to tell them to stop gambling.

Same with pot and gambling here. Was gonna be the answer to everything. Now gambling addicts have the convenience on every corner. There are a couple people who are waiting outside the restaraunt the wife works at every saturday morning to play the machines.
