The bulls are still in velvet and will be for another 3 weeks or so (if thats an issue) As of 2 pm AST today, there are about a thousand or so animals in large bands between the Kuparuk River and Slope Mtn

Thanks for the update. What has the temp been doing up there?

40s to low 50s during the day dipping to the high 30's at night.

Its partially cloudy and cool (43F) as of 7pm AST 8 Aug. The rain lately has been heavy instead of the usual drizzle

Might... Get an opportunity to come up in Oct to hunt. Thinking of bou, goat or deer. Would love to get a nice Oct-caped bull, but I'm always skeptical about those crazy, rutty, smelly swing'n ding ding bou's. Post up some pics when you can.

I would stay away from them in October, they aren't worth eating in my opinion though the dark racks and the beautiful white mains do look awesome.

They're still in large groups between Toolik Lake and Pump 3

I go back up on the 31st and will be on road patrol and will post updates as things change
