Cut Off Trail At A Switchback- Up to $5k and 6 Months

Attorneys representing the park service initially offered Sunseri a 5-year ban from Grand Teton earlier this spring, which he turned down. "Definitely not," he told SFGATE in late February. "That's crazy." The park repeatedly declined his counteroffer of volunteer trail work and soil rehabilitation as an alternative, he said. "I'm feeling a little confused that this is even happening,"

The switchback he bushwhacked cut 1/2 mile off the regular trail to the summit, so it was substantial.

No regret or remorse. He even said he'd do it 100% the same way again.

We'll see what the judge decides but if he's guilty the sentencing won't be in his favor with comments like that

As a trail builder and maintainer, I’d cut his feet off. Kinda like stealing in authoritarian regimes.

Being charged with a misdemeanor, Sunseri said, "could theoretically destroy my entire professional career as a trail runner."

Oh, sorry, maybe don't break the law and also maybe don't cheat when setting your 'record' on an established route, idiot. Does this clown not understand that he wouldn't even HAVE the record if he hadn't shortened the official route by 1/2 mile? He only beat the other older record by 2 minutes...he does a lot of these times routes apparently, I wonder what else he's cheated on?
