We are walking away from new construction. Selling the land and moving to somewhere we can afford to live. We have done a lot of work on the land and can sell a a substantial profit. Take the money to support a remodel on an existing home. A lot less headaches.

At times, that makes the most sense. Right now new construction costs are insane. Best of luck however you choose to go.

Most banks handle the leftover cash by just reducing the principal on the backend, but the ARM rates right now are definitely a headache.
