The last couple weeks I've been doing lots of map scouting getting ready for spring bear. Seems like it's the hunt I get the most anxious for every year.

Anyways, you know what to do.

Both of these were from a hike just after spring bear season, this last year.

You looking for pictures of bears from last spring Randy? I got a few, uploading them now.

Some nasty through-the-spotter pictures, cause it's all I've got.

One I wish I caught up to.

There are actually three bears in this one.

Two more, same night. It was a good night.

Just a little guy.

And September 18th. Never could catch up to this guy, just under a five inch pad.

My excitement level just went up a couple of notches...it'll be a good spring.

Here's a late fall bear, November 20th if I recall. Would've pulled the trigger on that one too, if I could have caught up and the gun would have worked. Rough day.

More from spring.

Bear baiting.

It will be a good spring, Snowy.

Got my computer back up and running, better do a little map work.

Evidently me and Carl are going to have the mountain to ourselves this spring, as no one else here hunts bear?

Laying in a tick filled creek bottom glassing for bears.

You guys got to knock it off, montana in the spring is the only hunt I look forward too and you are making it hard to focus at work

Can/do you guy's use bait for Hunting Bears out there ?? Or is it mainly spot & stalk/shoot ?

Here in cheeseland we use bait only, but can also run them with dogs in the Northern half of the state.

Nice Pics too - thanks for sharing.

Every good bear baiter and childrens literature expert knows bears like porrige, right?

Seriously, in MT it's spot and stalk only, no baiting and no dogs. I'm really glad it is that way, as bear season is probably my favorite, and the other hunting methods would change what I love about it.

I should add, in some areas in WY and ID baiting is legal, and in ID some areas it's legal to run hounds.

Completely agree. Spring bear is the most laid back, relaxing hunt of the year. I have nothing against hounds or baiting, but really like what we have going without it.

07 - My first hunt as a MT resident, I was on top of the world. Still one of my longest days hunting, rolled into town at 7 am.
