Colorados gmu 85 fact or fiction

85 holds some very good elk but most on private land. A few public land opportunities and if you are a go getter you can get on the good ranches borders but several of them patrol and like to keep "their elk" herded onto their property. But sometimes the grass is greener on our side of the fence.

i know that... My family owns a few thousand acares arround there just wanna hera from other people about what they took and seen. i am well aware of TP ranch and how they operate. among others....

Richard, you should have asked that question. Seems like BT gave you some good info based on the question you asked.

I am a colorado resident and keep hearing about unit 85s BIG elk. i have hunted it a few times and seen good elk. do any resident and or non resident have any info?
From what I’ve seen and heard, 85 definitely has some good bulls—but most of the “big elk” reputation comes from private ground. A lot of those bigger bulls tend to hang on large ranches or shift there once pressure picks up.
I’ve got a place down there and spend a fair amount of time in the unit, and there are definitely elk around—but on public it’s more of a work-for-it unit than a true trophy setup. If you’ve got access or can catch them early before they move, that’s when it gets interesting.
