Looking at these 3 units. I have watched all Randy's e scouting videos have looked over colorado's hunting atlas Google Earth and the motor vehicle use maps. I'm looking around black Mountain and bears ears peak. Didn't know if anyone had any experience with the area and if I'm looking in the right areas.

Jasher- You are looking in good areas but wrong time of year unless you have low elevation private land. Bears Ears is pretty high, I would say anything above 8,000 feet will have snow and a lot of it. I hunt a lot in unit 15 and in 2013 we had to get out because of the snow storm and that was 1st rifle but that is not the norm. I have some private land in unit 3 that I can hunt in 4th rifle and it covered with elk, but it is low farmland. Not much of a hunt more of a harvest. I guess my point is look at low elevations close to private land.

Redman is right on. Elk are usually moving to lower elevations in 3rd and down low by 4th in that area. Of course, every year is different and this past year was warm with elk holding up high. Look for areas with public land where you can catch them moving from high to low. The elk migrate to the west and to the south off of the National Forest. Most of the land south of those units is private.

Ok thanks for the advice. I'll have to go back to the drawing board. I'm limited on the time I can go because during second season one of our party members has a training class that they can't miss
