you just referring to measuring moa differences after making clicks?
No clicking involved. Site in at whatever zero distance you prefer. I use 100yds. Move the target back a few hundred yards further. I've used 400yds. Shoot at the same dot. Carefully measure how far the center of the second group is below point of aim. Use ballistic calculator to back calculate velocity and to 'true' ballistic profile. I use Ballistic AE.
 
I've got a Pact MK IV, something like $350 new years ago. But I have very fond memory's of pre-chronograph days. It was easy to tell the velocity of the cartridges we were shooting, the reload manual told us what it was and no one could prove different!
