The pecker method. I believe they measure the the distance between the the nostril holes on the beak and the length of the beak. The bigger the beak or “pecker”, as it’s commonly referred to in the fowl world, the older the bird.

That pic doesn’t do that goat justice. Absolutely massive in person. Aka the Cape buffalo monikered by a coworker. This is a prime example of genetics trumping age for anyone planning a goat hunt. Mid 80 (unofficial) goat. Hard to believe he was only 3. There is so much you can learn from aging critters and why I’m a huge proponent of this extra info

I think pronghorn generally plateau on horn size around 2-3. I’m sure there is variability but it’s a lot earlier than most other antlered critters we chase.
