Cast iron. Can I save this?

It appears that cast iron is to cooking what re-loading ammunition is to shooting.

Not necessary, but can be better than factory, everyone has an opinion on the best way, and many ways will work. Also, it seems intimidating to start and probably highly addictive and expensive if one succumbs to the siren call of the svelte cast iron skillet.IMG_7447.gif

My wife took all the wife’s tales out of cast iron for me. One can clean with dawn & water so long as one heats the pan to evaporate the water and then oil it up and let sit for next use.
This is what I do too. Ours are seasoned well, warm water and a quick wash with dawn won’t hurt a good seasoning. I dry them off with the stove and hit it with a little oil on a paper towel. The best thing for cast iron is frequent use.

Old skillet with rust. I know there are cast iron cookers here. Can I save it? And how? mtmuley
Lukewarm water, sea salt and steel wool. Rub down to clean metal. Dry it and wipe it down completely top bottom handle with lard then wipe it again with a blue towel to the point it doesn't look like any oil on it. . Put it in the oven upside down at 450 degrees for 45 to 60 minutes. Put some lard or oil on it. Warm it up to heating temp and so be it. When you clean it NO SOAP lukewarm water with soft brush. Put a little oil on it for storage till ready for use again.

NO SOAP!! My wife did that with one of my CI pans and I could taste the soap. Just hot water and a plastic scrapper.
