Case prep question, not sure what to do

I found new Nosler 17 Remington brass. The problem is that the necks are too thick for a stand chamber. Seat a bullet and you can hardly drop the bolt handle


I have a LE Wilson 17 cal inside neck reamer. I reamed the inside and they fit perfectly. I called Wilson and they told me that instead of reaming the inside of the necks I should neck turn the outside


Any advice or recommendations

That's a new one. Do you have a neck turner? I've never even considered buying one. Maybe try a different brand of brass??

I wasn't familiar with the LE Wilson inside neck reamers but a look at their website says:

• Standard reamers are sized for use on fired, un-sized cases.

Seems like an odd way to do it. to get consistent results a case would need to be fired in a chamber with a specific chamber neck diameter and have a given amount of spring back.

I've only neck turned with K&M neck turner that required you mandrel the neck first then it skims material off the outside. You can get inside cutting non-cutting or cutting pilots. I have the cutting pilots to make sure thickness is consistent through the neck. I haven't done it in years though and I wouldn't chamber a barrel that didn't have available brass that doesn't require that tedious step.
