Ohio but my heart is always in the woods
Well sicne everybody passed on getting their own personal turkey permit this fall(I said I wouldnt get one until they all bagged their turkey) I got a tag. I decided to just try with a bow that way I could hunt for both turkeys and deer at the same time.

Well on Saturday I had almost. The turkey that was going to go pass me at ten feet caught my movement drawing the bow and backed off a bit. Then it came back out after I let down after only being half drawned. It was in the tall grass where only a head shot could happen (easy if I had a shotgun.) So I let it go by.

Then Sunday after finding the deer Fred Jr got we spotted some turkeys on the way back to camp and I go after em(road hunt LOL). I manage (hard for me to believe I got so close) to get within 30 yards but only a head shot again(easy with shotgun) and they drifted away into the forest.

Bowhunting them is hard for sure.

Stick with it (get it :D ). I am sure it will be very rewarding when it happens. I have a hard enough time with a shot gun, so I don't think I will be trying it anytime soon.

What kind of family are you raising there? Turning down hunting opportunities, what the heck is going on? ;) :D

Nut,
Killing a turkey with stick and string may be the toughest challenge in the woods.
If available you might consider a blind of some sort. Just something to hide the motion of drawing the bow helps enormously.
Got luck,
WD

Wally, we have a blind. I just do not feel like hauling it around with how much my turkey vest weighs. ;)

The experience has been awesome as it was. This is a challenge that I want to accomplish someday. ;)
