Blacktail Deer hunters in Northern California

Years ago I was stationed at Travis AF Base in Solano County which is halfway between Sacramento and San Francisco. Very good hunting for me near (A zone) reservoirs. This dandy forky was downed after a long stalk to get within good shooting distance for my 44 MAG carbine. How do you like my camo? TR

I can see how he never saw you coming.

Grew up hunting blacktails in NorCal and Southern (Southwest) Oregon...plus many a benchleg in mountains east of Redding.
Fun? yeahhhhh, kinda, sometimes, maybe? It became a lot less fun when I took up archery hunting- I DO NOT miss bow hunting in 110* weather through neck deep poison oak. Was also rough to hunt both states due to Cali's bastardized draw system...
I hear Redding can get hot, didn't know they had so much poison oak. That's why I like hunting the coastal range in Mendocino county, it can get warm, but not that hot and not that much poison oak.

We do get some nice bucks in Mendocino county

Not sure where you hunt out there, but when I hunted a massive logging property in mendo county there was so much poison oak everywhere, it was impossible not to touch it. The vines on the ground, bushes, shrubs, trees, everything covered in it. Even the camp host said the deer will be covered in it so once you get one, just butchering it will expose you to it. Luckily Im immune to poison oak but my wife isnt and she was not thrilled at all when I came home.

Not sure if anyone would be interested or not, but I have private deer hunting property in Mendocino county in California in Zone A. I just had 3 openings come up. If anyone is interested you can PM me.

“Official” record high for Redding is 118 cuz they don’t want to freak out the tourists lol… those of us who lived there saw 121 a few times esp out by the airport

That's hot!
Yeah and don’t believe that bull$hit about “but it’s a dry heat” 🔥.
It’s the not cooling down at nights that really get to ya… as my old man used to say- “Hotter than two rats in a wool sock” and no, I never understood that!

I was born over on the coast (Arcata/Eureka) when we moved to Redding I realized Satan really had an address!
