Big ol Burban

It's neat to see getting the family involved on this project. As an adult I look back on the different things that I worked on with my dad (usually not because I wanted to at the time) and sure am blessed to know that I can do some shade tree mechanic work, framing, electrical and plumbing that I probably wouldn't be able to do otherwise.

That is the goal. I don’t expect them to be mechanics. I just want them to look back, smile, and have a mental tool box to help them fix their problem. What seems like a huge problem is just a series of small steps.

Advanced mathematics in a nutshell. Or as I tell my kids, "It's algebra all the way down. Always has been."

Yep, if you have a good grasp on the mathematical logic and dynamics of algebra and geometry ... then you are equipped to solve many problems.

I hated those subjects so much, I took Geology as an all day summer class. Learning about rocks in a classroom when it’s a beautiful summer day as a 20 year old. Didn’t even get to go outside for Lab.

Did ya have each of them give it their best shot at torquing that balancer bolt?
I had the boy holding a long punch in the flywheel. My wife had to come out and hold the engine. I had torqued it and set the depth already with the old bolt. Then the new bolt got the first torque sequence and was supposed to get to 140 degrees of additional turn. We made it to 130 ish before all hell broke loose. Torque wrench and kid went flying, lol. Called it and said good enough.

It Runs!!! Alaina got the privilege of being the fist to start it this evening. She has kinda fell in love with it. She very much wants it as her first vehicle.

It wasn’t without a bit of pain. The Y connector for the heater core / rear heat broke when I took it apart. I had forgotten about it and didn’t fix it while the engine was out. My fat sausage fingers couldn’t squeeze into where it was. A long screwdriver and dremmel tool got it tore apart enough to remove. A new one is a few days away so the hose is pinched off to run it now.

Now to finish up a bunch of odds and ends, tailgate switch, headlight, new HVAC buttons…. The kids will detail the interior and get it ready for use. It’s been a fun project with them.

Might have missed it in the burb build but what do you do on the tuning side of things? I imagine you're building them all AFM delete and swapping in different tunes for the new displacements? Do you have HPTuners or farm it out or something else?

I have a tuner down the road that for it all. It’s not worth it for me to get into it for as little as I do.

On this one I had a ECM that I had had previously had tuned for this motor. So it was just a swap. I can get it scheduled for the dyno and get the correct VIN ECM updated later.
