OnX was the real game changer for me. If you didn’t grow up in an area or live there a long time, it was very intimidating. Mapping apps takes a lot of that stress out of it. Also takes a lot of advantage away from those who knew how to go get, read and navigate by county, BLM and FS maps. Basically opened things up to the masses.

Everyone has their own comfort level. I feel OnX and hunting YouTube really advanced at about the same time, creating the perfect storm.

I moved to MT in the early
2000’s and my favorite thing was going into unfamiliar territory solo with a paper USFS map.

I think whatever the argument is, it’s all easier for new folks to figure out these days.

I’m on my way home from a Midwest fishing trip and I witnessed multiple times a day over the course of the week other boats coming into a spot that we were fishing when they could have went to 5 other spots within a mile with the same features on the topographical map.

After the first 20 minutes I’m glad they got a little more serious on some very serious issues that we are hunting. Matt and Ryan are 100% correct on states being behind on technology.

now…back to the best burger spots in close proximity to hunting spots.

I’ve been thinking about my post and realized that I probably have my priorities switched. I think I’m more concerned about an increase in the number of hunters coming to kill a raghorn bull making it harder to get a table at the burger spot than I am about the burger eaters being competition for shooting a raghorn bull.

R3 is not the problem in the west, and in fact if we want to keep our hunting traditions alive in the face of growing animals rights groups spreading misinformation that results in hunting and trapping bands, R3 in addition to outreach to non-hunters will be pivotal to protecting our hunting heritage. Also, everyone blames the nonresidents for crowding, but in reality especially with the new nonresident caps it is the residents causing crowding. Resident populations in the west are booming...Idaho, Utah, Arizona, Nevada, and Montana are in the top ten fastest growing states in the union. Wyoming is number 11 and Colorado is number 17. These rankings come of the interwebs so take them with a grain of salt, but fact of the matter is more people + fewer places to hunt + in some areas fewer tags = less opportunity and more crowding.

I haven’t seen a power hour in many years. I wonder how far 20$ will go now….everyone should experience it at least once. Never experienced such an eclectic group piled in a bar like sardines. Maybe I was also seeing double. Hard to recall.

Wy increase is primarily from people over the age of 65. I like my odds against that demo.
