There is more NR hunters in the West because of technology in my opinion. Ive said on here before, when I was a kid and adult friends and family went west to hunt it was rare. It used to be a grand adventure, now gohunt tells you your odds of killing a 6x6 on a specific ridge before you even leave the couch. So the fear of not seeing an animal the entire trip, getting lost, etc...is no longer a factor. People can go afield 2000 miles from home with much more confidence than ever before.

That and keeping up with the jones'/social media. One out of state hunt used to be OIL for the working guy. Now if you aren't doing multiple hunts/leases etc "your just not into it bro". "YOLO"

I generally avoid Helena at all costs, but when I’m there I always enjoy some burger, chicken, and a frosty beer there.

Outdoor recreation is a business and we are all the clients.

I suppose it's been discussed ad nauseum, but I just don't by the influencers = crowding argument.Sure there are examples of spots being burned, but there's a larger picture. I think what we see on the landscape is a function of more people. Be nice to have a boogeyman though.

My local trailhead is more crowded every year. It ain't being advertised by influencers. Same goes for the dump. I never used to have to wait in line. Same goes for the Suds Hunt when I want something greasy.

Increased use of place, infrastructure, and resources in the West is everywhere, and is occurring outside of pretty pictures and lofty instagram posts.

When it comes to hunting I think @Forkyfinder is on to something. We literally have tools in the toolkit to alter the hunting experience in this state. Let's focus on those.

I can picture Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary rolling in their graves everytime a Texas dentist gets hauled up Everest.

OnX was the real game changer for me. If you didn’t grow up in an area or live there a long time, it was very intimidating. Mapping apps takes a lot of that stress out of it. Also takes a lot of advantage away from those who knew how to go get, read and navigate by county, BLM and FS maps. Basically opened things up to the masses.

You either adapt or quit because hunting distribution has certainly changed. I share Matt’s sentiments and appreciate him but I will spend my time trying to talk some sense into local fish and game and killing the last one. Shame on the folks that burnt things down but maybe there will be a greater good and I’m just yet to see it.
