The other 2 threads on the 30-06 and 375 H&H parent case cartridges were interesting (at least to me but I'm easily amused). What is your favorite .308 based cartridge?
My personal favorite is the 7mm-08. I bought my 3 sons each a rifle when they turned 12. One a 30-30, one a .243, and one a 7mm-08. The 7mm-08 turned out to be the favorite. We sold the other two and now they all shoot a 7mm-08.

I like the 7mm-08. I have an inexpensive Ruger American chambered in this caliber and it's my backup gun. Low recoil and plenty of power for the ranges I shoot.

My Grab & Go is the 7mm/08, but I have to tell Y'All my 338 Fed is just down right Nasty Mean ! 160's as fast as a 7RM and 210's spitting out at 2600....It's a Mini-Monster in sheeps clothing.

Other than the .308 itself, probably the 7mm-08. Nothing wrong with the .243 either, Its just a little small for what I usually do.

Nope! Strictly 308 based!
At least this way we can't get a vote for Manbun!

My favorites would be 7mm-08AI, and 25 Souper..

.260. It gets an usefully high SD 120gr going to speed. You have to go to 140gr in 7mm08 to get similar SD which overloads the case capacity.

The 25 Souper and 270 Redding are also interesting, the 260 seems to be the sweet spot.

There goes my attempt to stir the pot!

243Win! Twisted right they are amazing.

I may be partial to my 243Win, but I would agree with this choice. Also in the same category is the 6mm Creedmoor. Now for another 308 wildcat, is an 8mm-08. I had this thought about a week ago. Not sure about velocity, but a rebarreled short action rifle loaded with a 200gr Accubond sounds awful interesting.

I'd respectfully disagree with the 7mm-08, 140gr bullet aspect.
The 140gr seems the sweet spot for the 7mm-08. Pushing a 140gr bullet in the 2,700-2,800 fps range.
I've loaded 160gr Sierra HPBT GameKings. Now that bullet seriously encroaches on powder space!

.308. With a 165 grain modern bullet, it does everything well. Ammo and components are plentiful and easy to find.
For hunting I don’t think any of its offspring offer any significant advantages.

If we're taking purely ballistics, the 25 Souper improved with 131 blackjack ACE's is probably the best performing 308 based cartridge.

Dang, after reading this thread, I'm going to have to go buy another 7mm-08 as I haven't had one in about 15 years. I do have a .260 Rem. and like it, but you really need to handload for it to get maximum accuracy etc.
