I harvested an elk this year using a 150 ttsx bullet at 420 yards. Did the bullet mushroom correctly?

Sure looks like it and the bull is dead. But can you tell us more about the shot, as in was the entire path through meat or did it hit bone?

What cartridge, 30-06? 300WM?

I just recovered my first Barnes (7mm08) and it had a full opening but it went through one shoulder. It's a small sample size so I don't know if the opening was from the bone resistance or the usual performance. My guess is that if I missed the shoulder it would have been a clean passthrough. It was at 250 yards.

I used a .280AI to take the cow elk. The bullet recovered had gone through the shoulder and I found it just under the hide on the opposite side of the animal.

Looks like it's done the job just fine to me.
Quite a bit of bruising on the meat thou. That can be expected if through the shoulders.
It's dumped all its energy inside the animal with no pass through. Job done.
What organs did it take out in the process?

I'm thinking of going over to TTSX as a lot of our game processors won't take in deer shot with lead. A backdoor way of banning lead I believe.

So at the moment I shoot 165gr interlocks running around 2700fps in my 20" T3 30-06.
Anybody got any pet loads for 130 to 150 gr TTSX??

Let me check, I used a ttsx 180 gr for the .06.

I use the 168 TTSX in my 30/06. I load 55.0 grains of IMR-4350 I get 1/2 inch groups in my TC Venture.

Thanks guys.
It's mainly for small deer in the UK.
So fallow(whitetail size), roe deer and muntjac. Red deer a few times a year.
So maybe I won't get the expansion on the heavier bullets??

Mate check out Fox bullets, it's a pain that we have to switch but I have just ordered some today, for my .243 and my soon to be .308 next rifle.
Ed ran through Quickload for me today whilst taking my order over the phone, his suggested load matched my mates recommendation.
BTW, on the grapevine, order as much as you can while you can, powder, primers and bullets!

Cheers
Richard

Cheers Richard.
Im having to change a few things due to supply issues.
Ramshot Big Game has been my 06 powder for years. Having to work up a load for N150 now. Use it for my 9.3x62 so I've got it.
Heard a few indifferent things about them. I know a few contractors north of the border. Not sure yet. Let me know how you get on if you could.
See what I can get locally.
Cheers. Jon
